Rahul said in his letter that he condemns the granting of permission for offshore mining without taking into account the opinions of the locals and the environmental conditions . Rahul Gandhi said that the coastal people are opposing the process of conducting tenders for offshore mining. He alleged that the permissions were given without assessing the environmental impact.
Fish stocks will also decrease.
The Congress leader said that he is strongly opposed to the Offshore Areas Mineral Amendment Act. He said that offshore mining will endanger marine life, damage coral reefs and reduce fish stocks. The Ministry of Minerals invited tenders for offshore mining in 13 places. Rahul said in his letter that there were severe protests at that time. He said that the establishment of a marine monitoring lab in Kollam will create a problem for fish breeding. Rahul Gandhi demanded that the government immediately withdraw its decision.
