Visas cancelled for Pakistani citizens in wake of Pahalgam attack

The central government has taken a key decision in the wake of the Pahalgam attack. In view of the growing security concerns over the visa regime for Pakistani citizens following the attack in Jammu and Kashmir, the Indian government has decided to cancel all types of visas for Pakistani citizens. As per this decision, almost all visas have been cancelled. Already, the validity of regular visas issued to Pakistani citizens expired on Sunday, while those who came on medical visas will continue till Tuesday.

Actions to be taken after visa expiry

The central government has decided to take strict action against Pakistani citizens once their visas expire . According to the Immigration Act, even after the visa expires,Foreigners in India face three years in prison or a fine of Rs. 3 lakhOfficial sources have revealed that there is a possibility of imposing both. The relevant officials stated that this has been agreed upon in the money order.

In the wake of the Pahalgam attack, the Indian government has decided to immediately suspend visa services to Pakistani citizens, following the recommendations of the Cabinet Committee on Security. As per the decision, 12 types of visas have been cancelled and Pakistani citizens have been ordered to be deported within 72 hours. Those who came on medical visas have been given a deadline of April 29, 2025.

Massive evacuation at Punjab's Attari-Wagah border

Meanwhile, the movement of Pakistani nationals has increased at the Attari-Wagah border in Punjab. Since Friday, 509 Pakistani nationals (including 9 diplomats and officials) have left India and returned home. At the same time, 745 Indians (including 14 diplomats and officials) in Pakistan have returned safely to their home country through this border crossing.

This situation has an impact on Pakistan-India relations.
